INOPS - the International Day of Peace 2011
INOPS CC members collaborate with individuals and groups in their local communities to help promote peace through women's rights, religious inclusivity, and environmental security, among other world concerns.
Along with a fellow peace student Joann Awayan, INOPS CC member Sowmya Ayyar had an opportunity to meet Bishnois, an environmental community and pray for environmental well-being along with a young Bishnoi man. They also met Bishnoi women and girls, and spoke briefly with them to grasp a general idea of women's roles in environmental protection.
Finally, INOPS observed an open-pit mine, and discussed the hazardous nature of mining in the forest. INOPS hopes to go back and understand if there is anything we as peace studies students can do for this community and their problems with the government. Our backgrounds in negotiation, meditation, and conflict transformation could be an asset.
