Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons Presentation

Presentation from Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons

Voices for a World Free of Nuclear WeaponsOn April 13, 2011, Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute and member of the Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons, gave a presentation to  about 50 people from the Committee of Religious NGOs at the United Nations.  This Committee is a coalition of representatives of religious, spiritual and ethical non-governmental organizations who are dedicated to the pursuit of peace, understanding and mutual respect.
Jonathan read from a statement created by the Cooperation Circle, titled “A Call to Conscience.”

“We believe that the indiscriminate, destructive effects of nuclear weapons render them incompatible with civilized values and international humanitarian law. The threat to use them and annihilate vast numbers of innocent people, inflict indescribable suffering and environmental destruction is immoral, and contrary to the purposes for which the blessings of life have been given to us. Our goal is to achieve the universal, legally enforceable, nondiscriminatory and verifiable elimination of nuclear weapons.”
