Unity Walk

Purpose: The Unity Walk brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, and faiths to walk as family - learning to respect each other's differences, and serve beyond themselves. As our paths cross, we learn about our neighbors, and also make a statement to the world.

Description of Activities: For the past 5 years, the Unity Walk has offered a rare opportunity for people of all faiths and no faiths to come together around a shared interest in learning about their neighbor.  Annually, approx. 1,000 participants process down Washington’s famed Embassy Row in a statement of unity to the world.  For the past year, the programs of the Unity Walk have expanded to offer additional opportunities for people (mostly youth) to come together through interfaith service, most noted on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; the Global Days of Interfaith Youth Service, and the anniversary of September 11th. At this time, we hope to continue to maintain a presence in Washington, DC as a unique force for bringing together the interfaith community.  In the near future, we plan to expand this model to other communities, first in the U.S. and soon internationally – especially to areas where such proposed programs might have the largest impact.  We hope that this can be accomplished through partnerships with other URI CCs around the world.
